Federal Funding Resources: General Resources

FirstGov.gov - Visit http://www.firstgov.gov, the official Web site for searching U.S. Government funding opportunities. Check out http://www.firstgov.gov/Business/Nonprofit.shtml to access links to agency-specific, nonprofit Federal funding sources.

Grants.gov - This new Web site, launched is 2003, offers a simple, unified "storefront" for all customers of Federal grants to electronically find, apply for, and manage grants. It encompasses over 900 grant programs offered by the 26 Federal grant-making agencies. Located at the site (under "What is Grants.gov") is a Fact Sheet that provides an overview of the site and how to use it. Check out http://www.grants.gov.

The Catalog of Federal Domestic Assistance (CFDA) - This online catalog allows you to access a database of all Federal programs available to a wide range of potential applicants, including nonprofits, community- and faith-based groups. Search the database, find the program you want, and contact the office that administers the program to find out how to apply for funds. Visit CFDA online at http://12.46.245.173/cfda/cfda.html.

Federal Funds for Organizations That Help Those in Need - A comprehensive booklet is available through the White House Office of Faith-Based and Community Initiatives Web site (http://www.fbci.gov) that provides some basic information about the Federal grants process and lists more than 100 programs that may interest your organization. Grant programs are organized into general categories ranging from programs for elders and the homeless, to those that serve at-risk youth and people making the transition from welfare to work. Also included are State-level formula grants and how to contact your State about these funds. Go to http://www.whitehouse.gov/government/fbci/catalogue.pdf to directly access the PDF document and download it for review and use. But, be sure to visit http://www.fbci.gov from time-to-time to search an updated list.
