State Funding Resources

State Funding Opportunities from OJP Block Grants - Many OJP formula grants are awarded directly to State governments. The State, in turn, sets priorities and allocates these dollars to eligible grantees within a particular State. For more information on how a State intends to distribute formula grant funds, find the administering State agency at http://www.ojp.usdoj.gov/state.htm by selecting your State of interest from the map.

State Funds for Out-of-School-Time Projects - Many community- and faith-based initiatives provide services that support school-age children and youth during the hours when school is not in session. This publication prepared in June 2001 by the Finance Project highlights trends in State investment in school-age children and youth. Part I examines the landscape of State legislative action regarding supports and services for school-age children and youth. Part II provides a State-by-State catalogue of statutes that provide support for school-age children and youth. A review of Part II can be a starting point for finding additional State-level resources. Visit the Finance Project or download the PDF report at http://www.financeproject.org/oststatepaper.pdf.

To find out more on State funding opportunities, look on the Web for the State-level agencies such as Education, Social Services, Human Services, Labor, Child, Youth & Families, Aging, etc. To find these agencies:

  1. Search the Internet for your State's official Web site. For instance, the State of Maryland's Web site is - http://www.maryland.gov.

  2. When at the official Web site for the State, find links, agency indexes, or other mechanisms for accessing State-level offices.

  3. Look for funding opportunities at both the State Web site and at individual State-agency sites.

State Points of Contact for Federal Funding - Intergovernmental Review of Federal Programs established by Executive Order 12372 allows each State to designate an entity or single point-of-contact concerning the availability of State and local grants funded through Federal resources. For those States that have a home page for their designated entity, a direct link has been provided. Use this resource to track down funds available through State and local programs. Go to http://www.whitehouse.gov/omb/grants/spoc.html for a listing of State single points-of-contact.
