Training Highlights
ARC National Training in Miami, Florida, June 27-29, 2005
The ARC Navigating the Federal Funding Process National Training that took place in Miami,
Florida on June 27-29, 2005 focused on making connections with independent, secular, and faith-based
colleges and universities. This training included a diverse group of participants representing colleges
and universities from 25 states across the Nation.
Welcoming the training participants, Dr. Paul Corts, the Assistant General for Administration in
the Office of Justice Management, U.S Department of Justice emphasized the importance of seeking
funding at the State level, and provided potential sources and contact information for State Juvenile
Justice agencies.
Topics included identifying funding opportunities, recognizing the benefits of partnerships,
utilizing successful grant application strategies, developing the program evaluation and reporting,
and creating effective budgets.
The workshop showcased information on a comprehensive, accessible Federal Funding Toolkit that
provided resources on the Federal Grants process. The toolkit helped colleges and universities
identify federal and state funding streams, recognize the benefits of partnerships, develop competitive
federal grant applications, and evaluate programs. During the workshop, participants learned about
promising programs and network with colleagues from across the country.
The training materials, especially the Federal Funding Toolkit,
addressed the needs of their communities and were critical in planning for their grant-writing process. The
participants rated as very high the overall quality of the training facilitation.
