Training Highlights
ARC Regional Training in Richmond, Virginia, January 25-26, 2007
The ARC Navigating the Federal Funding Process Regional Training that took place in Richmond, VA, on January 25-26, 2007,
gathered a diverse group of participants, the majority of which represented community, faith-based and nonprofit organizations
from Virginia and the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area.
Welcoming the training participants in the morning session was Stephen Antkowiak, Training and Technical
Assistance Coordinator for the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP) Mr. Antkowiak gave an overview of
the role of OJJDP in removing the barriers that could prevent the Federal Government from partnering with faith-based organizations. Mark
Fero, Grants Manager for Richmond's Office of the Attorney General, emphasized the importance of seeking funding at the State
level and provided attendees with contact information on potential sources of State funding. Inspirational speakers,
Bob Muzikowski, Founder and President of Chicago Hope Academy, and Fritz Kling of the Parker Foundation, discussed
the importance of the work that grassroots organizations do in the community and stressed how important it is to understand the
nuances of the federal funding process to ensure continued viability and capacity expansion.
The participants of this ARC workshop indicated that the training materials, especially the
Federal Funding Toolkit, addressed their grant-writing needs and were vital tools in their
planning and grant-writing process. The participants rated as very high the overall quality of the training facilitation.
