ARC Regional Training in Trenton, NJ April 20-21, 2006
The ARC Navigating the Federal Funding Process Regional Training that took place in Trenton, NJ
April 20-21, 2006 gathered a diverse group of participants representing community based, faith-based, and
non-profit organizations.
Welcoming the training participants, Edward LaPorte, Executive Director New Jersey Department of State,
Office of Faith-Based Initiatives, emphasized the importance of seeking funding at the state level, and
provided potential sources and contact information for state juvenile justice agencies. Secretary of State,
Nina Mitchell Wells, Esq., stressed the importance of removing the barriers that prohibit the Federal Government
from partnering with faith-based organizations.
Topics included identifying funding opportunities, recognizing the benefits of partnerships, utilizing
successful grant application strategies, developing the program evaluation and reporting, and creating effective budgets.
The workshop provided information on a comprehensive, handy
Federal Funding Toolkit that provided resources on the federal
grants process. The toolkit helped participants identify federal and state funding streams, recognize the
benefits of partnerships, develop competitive federal grant applications, and evaluate programs. During
the workshop, participants learned about promising programs and network.
The training materials, especially the Federal Funding Toolkit,
addressed the needs of their communities and were critical in planning for their grant-writing process.
